Light Filters for Fewer Bugs and Better Night Vision
Color Filter Kit for LAMP-1
*REQUIRES LAMP-1 TO USE*
The Color Filter set is a pair of silicone lens covers designed exclusively for the LAMP-1 Lantern Light. Each set includes two filters, red and orange, that block light wavelengths below 500nm, the range most insects are attracted to. Both filters reduce bugs at your campsite. The difference is how much light you keep.
The orange filter is your everyday camp filter. It puts out roughly 25% of your lantern's normal brightness with a warm, comfortable glow. Enough light to cook, eat, read, and hang out while keeping insects away. Use it any time you want fewer bugs without giving up usable light.
The red filter is your low light option. It drops output to roughly 8% of normal brightness, which is intentional. Use it when you're stargazing, navigating a night hike, winding down for sleep, or trying not to wake up your tent mate. Red light doesn't reset your night vision the way white light does, and it won't interfere with your natural sleep cycle. It also blocks insect attracting wavelengths even more aggressively than orange.
If you're still doing things at camp, go orange. If you're done for the night, go red.
Both filters are made of soft, flexible silicone and attach by placing them directly over the LAMP-1 lantern. No tools, no clips, no modifications.
To use this filter set, you’ll need the LAMP-1 and a compatible NESTOUT outdoor battery. Pair them together for campsite lighting, emergency backup, backyard projects, or overlanding, then expand your setup with other compatible NESTOUT accessories like the FLASH-1, FAN-1, and PUMP-1 when your plans change.
Many insects navigate by light wavelength. White and blue light draws them in. Orange light operates at wavelengths that most flying insects have difficulty detecting.
Switch to the orange filter and notice the difference. Fewer moths circling the lantern. Fewer mosquitoes buzzing the table. A calmer, more comfortable campsite after dark.
Red for night vision and sleep. Orange for insect protection and warm campsite ambiance. Switch between them based on the moment.
Both filters are made of flexible silicone and designed to fit the FLASH-1 precisely. They store flat and weigh almost nothing in your gear bag.
White and blue light suppresses melatonin and tells your brain it's still daytime. That makes it harder to fall asleep after a late night around the campfire.
The red filter won't interfere with your natural sleep cycle. Use it as your go to light for winding down at camp, reading in the tent, or making one last trip to the cooler before bed.

Both filters block light wavelengths below 500nm, which is the range most insects are attracted to. Insects perceive light between 300nm and 500nm, with peak sensitivity around 350nm. By cutting off that spectrum, both the red and orange filters make your lantern significantly less visible to bugs compared to standard white light.
This set is designed exclusively for the NESTOUT LAMP-1 Lantern Light. It will not fit the FLASH-1 or any other devices. A separate color filter set is available for the FLASH-1.
White light forces your eyes to readjust to the dark, a process that can take up to 30 minutes. Red light doesn't trigger that reset, so you can use your lantern without losing the ability to see in low light. This is the same principle astronomers and military personnel have used for decades.
Yes. Unlike white or blue light, red light doesn't suppress melatonin or disrupt your natural sleep cycle. It's a better choice for late night use in and around the tent when you're winding down for bed.
The orange filter emits light at wavelengths that many flying insects have difficulty detecting. This means fewer bugs are attracted to your light source compared to standard white light.
Both filters are made of soft, flexible silicone and attach by placing them directly over the LAMP-1 unit. No tools, clips, or modifications required.
